James Belcher


 

James A. Belcher - Cocoa - James A. Belcher passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010. He was born in Bluefield, WV on March 15, 1949 and moved to Cocoa, FL in 1959. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Alvin and son Bradley Belcher. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Jamie (wife Charlotte) and Scott; two stepsons, Michael and Steve Ballans; his mother, Lola; and three grandchildren, Ashley Ballans and Jared and Amber Belcher. Jim was a teacher and coach for 31 years in Brevard County. He was an avid golfer, played men's softball, refereed basketball and umpired softball. He was best known for his passion for coaching. As a teacher and coach he had an impact on many of his students lives. Jim was a member of King Street Baptist Church in Cocoa, FL.

I remember what a firey coach he was when he coached at Central. He was forever getting technicals or thrown out of the game because he argued so with the refs. We loved it. He coached the same group of girls in the '76 and '77 school years who took the county title 2 years in a row. The same girls went on to win the State 3A Championship as seniors in 1980. He was a hoot and I will miss him! ~ Nina Keck
